Financial Planning
May 4th, 2005 by Bevin LynchOne of the smartest thing that my best friend and I have ever done, concerning money, was to hire a financial advisor. Of coures, we did it for two different reasons. She is trying to get out of debt and I am trying to understand investing and buying a condo. But it has taken a lot of the stress of us, just being able to call someone who really knows what they are doing and get his advice. Of course, there are a lot of sketchy characters out there so you have to be careful when choosing one, but I highly recommend checking a few out. For me, I don’t pay any fees, the companies I invest in pay him. So there really is no down side, unless he gives me poor advice, which I hope he won’t do (isn’t this where I should knock on some wood?)

Its one of the best things to do if your income is 25k or more a year.

Isn’t having this advisor paid by who you invest in a conflict of interest. It seems he would have an interest in advising you to invest in companies which would pay him, and not invest in companies which don’t pay him a fee. What am I missing with this situation?
