Save Money by Cutting Food Costs

Eating healthy on a tight budget can be challenging. Junk food seems to be more healthy for the wallet, while health food tends to cost more. The American Dietetic Association suggests that before you go to the grocery store, take a look at what you already have. Go through your refrigerator, pantry and cabinets. Throw away anything that is spoiled or past its expiration date. Make your shopping list according to what’s left. Eat something before you go shopping. Ever notice how you are more susceptible to impulse buys when you grocery shop on an empty stomach? Check your newspaper for sales and clip out coupons to bring with you. Two for one sales are great. While grocery shopping, buy your lunch for the week. Choose a healthy bread and meats like lean chicken or turkey breast slices. This is much more economical than buying fast food every day of the week and it’s more nutritious. Buy frozen fruits and vegetables. They are just as nutritious and cost less than fresh fruits and vegetables. And last, but not least, buy in bulk.
